Carboxymethyl cellulose CMC, also known as cellulose gum, Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, is a versatile water-soluble polymer derived from cellulose—a natural polymer found in plant cell walls.
Carboxymethyl cellulose is a white to off-white, odorless and tasteless powder. CMC is available in different viscosity grades.
Low-viscosity CMC-LV is valued for its dispersing, stabilizing, colloidal protection, and film-forming properties.
High-viscosity CMC-HV exhibits extremely high thickening efficiency, strong water retention, excellent suspension stability, and rheological control properties.

Application:
1. Oil drilling, drilling mud fluid loss reducer (one of its largest applications). It offers salt and high-temperature resistance and fluid loss reduction. Low-viscosity PAC effectively controls the penetration of water from the mud into the formation, protecting the wellbore without affecting the overall fluidity of the mud.
2. In oil fields, it is used as a fracturing fluid thickener for hydraulic fracturing of shale gas and oil and gas wells. It offers high thickening, sand suspension, friction reduction, and excellent post-fracturing degradation.
3. Daily chemical, it is used as an adhesive and thickener, imparting appropriate viscosity and formability to pastes.
4. Coatings, it is used as a thickener and leveling agent.
5. Food, it is used as a thickening and stabilizer.
